Chapter 1 Nothing

My experience this week has been inconsistent but interesting.

The first day I was flat on the floor breathing, eyes closed while trying to let thoughts pass by. During the 15 minutes there was a little prayer offered up, some random thoughts, and a teeny bit of insight. Definitely good. I did notice that I was holding tension in my eyes for some reason. I had to consciously tell myself to relax my eyes.

The next day I found out our offer was accepted on a house. Holy minestrone! I was way too wound up. Interesting timing.

I tried to practice some 'nothing' time on my morning train commute. I would notice my breathing, then try to let thoughts pass by like on the ticker tape, but couldn't relax much. I do like this concept and want to keep at this practice and try to be more consistent. So I guess we get to continue practicing with nothing and asking why we aren't doing it.

It's interesting that you felt your eyes tensing up -- so that shows you are aware and mindful of what you are trying to do -- trying to relax. Sometimes trying to relax is harder than anything...it makes us more tense!

And then the good news of your house and having your offer accepted. How exciting for you!!! Congratulations!! Of course that brings stress and worries and thoughts and concerns...it's a big step, it's good news and yet you were unable to relax and do "nothing". Timing is everything...why not try imagining yourself in the new house and use 15 minutes on the commuter train to "be" in that new space. Might work!! :)

it's sometimes hard to grasp nothing, but once you have the hang of it, it can become quite addicting, at least it has for me :) looking forward to the truth!

It seems that for many of us, this was not as easy as we expected. I just can't seem to shut up the 'noise' but am trying to learn to just let it flow by...

Congrats on your house sale. Nothing can be a challenge. Lucky us, we get to continue practicing it this week too. Much success with Truth.

I was interested about your eyes tensing up too. I've learned over time that I tense my nose, which seems so odd to me, but there you go. We hold things close to ourselves in ways we aren't even aware of until the wrinkles and lines show up decades later. :-)
