Last Night's Dinner

For dinner last night I made these two dishes to accompany chicken.

At the Farmer's Market I bought some beets, turnips, carrots, & butternut squash for roasted veggies along with some olive oil and a little seasoning. I added the beet greens, a close relative to swiss chard which get dried up and crunchy when roasted. It's really tasty. George seems to think it tastes like candy with its natural sweetness.

This is red cabbage salad, a recipe from the book I just finished reading "A Homemade Life, stories and recipes from my kitchen table" by Molly Wizenberg. I'm not a huge cabbage fan but it's a fun and colorful way to add it to a meal since I always make green salads. We both liked it.

I really enjoyed Molly's personal stories/writing style, which for me, made the recipes more enticing to try. During the course of reading the book, I also made a chocolate cake, and banana bread w/chocolate from her recipes. This book is an enjoyable read and may inspire you to the kitchen to cook up something new as well.

She still writes her blog Orangette where the book was conceived and owns a restaurant 'Delancey'' in Seattle with her husband, which is the basis of her second book due in 2013.
